Fund Objective |
The Prescient Income Plus Fund will seek to follow an investment policy that will offer investors undivided participation in a diversified portfolio of income generating assets including high yielding equity, listed property shares, interest bearing stocks and financial instruments as defined from time to time. The Fund will endeavor to deliver performance in excess of what is available in the money market or a typical income fund. To achieve that the Fund will also look for opportunities to invest in a spectrum of primarily South African sub-investment grade instruments and longer dated and structured money market instruments from time to time. The aim of the Fund is to enhance income yield within constrained credit risk exposure that will not place undue risk on the capital of the investor by investing in South African investment markets. Capital gains will be of an incidental nature. The Fund will predominately invest in South African markets, but is however permitted to include investments in offshore Page 2 of 4 jurisdictions subject to the investment conditions determined by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (" the Authority" ) from time to time The Fund is permitted to invest in listed and unlisted financial instruments in line with the conditions as determined by legislation from time to time. Financial Instruments may include futures, forwards, options and swaps and will be used for efficient portfolio management, hedging risk and the reduction of trading cost only. The portfolio may also hedge against interest rate risk should there be interest bearing assets in the portfolio. The portfolio manager must ensure that the aggregate effective exposure to equity and equity related securities is limited to 10%.
Borrowings on behalf of the Fund may only be made on a temporary basis to meet redemption requests.
The Fund may apart from assets in liquid form also include participatory interests or any other form of participation in portfolios of collective investment schemes or other similar schemes. Where the aforementioned schemes are operated in territories other than in South Africa, participatory interests or any other form of participation in these schemes will be included in the portfolio only where the regulatory environment is to the satisfaction of the manager and trustee and is of a sufficient standard to provide investor protection at least equivalent to that in South Africa.
Nothing in the supplemental deed shall preclude the manager from varying the ratios of asset allocation and securities, to maximize absolute return and investment potential in changing economic environments or market conditions or to meet the requirements, if applicable, of any exchange formally recognized in terms of legislation and from retaining cash or placing cash on deposit in terms of the Deed and any Supplemental Deeds thereto; provided that the manager shall ensure that the aggregate value of the assets comprising the Fund shall consist of securities of the aggregate value required from time to time by the Act.
The Trustee shall ensure that the investment policy set out in this supplemental deed, the Deed and in all Supplemental Deeds thereto is carried out.
For the purpose of this portfolio, the manager in consultation with the Investment Manager shall reserve the right to close the Fund to new investors on a date determined by the manager. This will be done in order to be able to manage the Fund in accordance with its mandate. The manager may, once a portfolio has been closed, open that portfolio again to new investors on a date determined by the manager.
