Allan Gray's longest running fund, the Allan Gray Equity Fund, returned 52.3% per annum since its inception on 1 October 98. This fund outperformed the All Share Index which in turn outperformed the average fund in the General Equity Sector.

The Allan Gray Equity Fund turned three years old at the end of September 2001. Simon Marais has been managing the fund which now has R1 102.9m under management and is the top performing unit trust in the general equity sector.
Following Simon's appointment as Chairman of Allan Gray Ltd on 1 March 01 and the subsequent broadening of his responsibilities he has delegated the management responsibility to Stephen Mildenhall. Stephen Mildenhall joined Allan Gray on the 1 June 1997 as an equity analyst and is currently the Chief Investment Officer at Allan Gray Ltd.
Simon Marais will continue to manage both the Allan Gray Balanced and Stable Funds for the foreseeable future.
